I’ll make naira equal to dollar, says Buhari

I’ll make naira equal to dollar, says Buhari
March 23
22:07 2015

Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure that the naira would be equal to the dollar in value if voted into office.

NAN reports that Buhari said this on Monday during the south-east presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.

Earlier, Rochas Okorocha, governor of the state, had urged APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates at all levels, noting that a vote for Buhari without support to others at the state would amount to nothing.

Okorocha said Buhari would address the problem of electricity, bring back the kidnapped Chibok girls and promote industrial growth.

He said that Buhari was loved by the people in the region and urged them to elect him and other APC candidates during the March 28 and April 11 general election.

Chinwoke Mbadinuju, former governor of Anambra and Chinwe Obaji, former minister of education, were formally welcomed to the APC at the rally.

The rally was attended by APC supporters from Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu and Imo.

We cannot keep treading this ruinous road of falling naira when we do not mainly export manufactured goods. We export mostly oil in which global market we are just price takers. On the other side also, we import most of what we consume for now, until we grow most of our own food, raw materials and industrial goods. We have to stop the naira from further going down.

I can’t say whether the above statement was made by Buhari or not,but making naira strong is not rocket science .If our leaders stopped their idiotic way of stealing what we have and take it to white nation We would have enough foreign reserves to backup the naira. If agriculture was encouraged so that things like Palm oil and kennel is produced which Palm oil is more costly than crude oil to augment crude oil I bet naira may not equal the dollar but the value would be very appreciative.

KAy, most of us are fortunate to attend school up to Harvad. But where are we in building the nation? we sit back and say what you have said but wont come out to make that change. yet we allow someone who has ruined the nation to continue to do so because of sentiments. AS for me, I need a courageious leader wether muslim or christian. someone who understand the selection of competent administrators and not someone who employs loudspeakers to mock his government. Instead of voting no one, I would take my chance with Buhari

But many of you commenting ignorantly here should learn from Ghana Cedis consolidation about 6years ago. A naira used to be like X5 of ghana cedis before, but since they consolidated the Ghanian Cedis, it is not just a little below the US Dollars. That’s about average of 1.2 cedis to 1USD. Charles Soludo attempted it, that was the reason for the introduction of the polymers; 5, 10, 20 and 50naira. 100naira was proposed to be d Country’s highest denomination and if the elites didn’t kick against it and pressurized the then President and the CBN to drop such move, it would have been long achieved, just like Ghana. And for your information, Soludo was engaged by the Ghanian Govt for the way out after the Nigerian govt dropped aborted the plan, that was after Billions of naira had gone into the polymers printing

Neither Buhari nor APC has denied the NAN report. So what is your issue really? What is wrong with making Naira equal to the Dollar as an ex-military head of state? Is it not simply for the Supreme Military Council to pass a decree?

Devaluing naira wouldn’t in any way help a developing nation rather will create more problems of insecurity and will chase away investors. How can an industrial giang venture in a stable nation? It is quite impossible. The more you devalue the easier is for government to pay salary, the weaker the economy and the resultant is industrial closure. Any nation in subsahara that devalues is lazy in ideas for they will benefit nothing since they are import dependent. The only way the western industrialists will lookthecside of this nation is when the value of the currency is stable and meaningful.

This secondary school droput will just keep saying nonsense. I watched the rally yesterday, and okorocha made the statement and Buhari concurred with it. the amount of things this man is promising, $1 to N1 and stabilizing the price of crude oil… This APC campaing is really turning childish, do we still have people that can be deceived by this? I will assure my brothers to wait for another 4 years so the north can bring out a better and fitter and intelligent man that will show how good we are

Honestly this is one in the series of polution of the political space and acts of desperation of the 73 year old General whose classmates are between 78-80 years old.
Does he think this is a Military Govt where he can just degree anything he likes?
What control dose he think he will have over the Dollar? Its simple economics, the more forex u earn the stronger your local currency n vis versa but this Buhari dose not care about all that but just need power to hand over Nigeria to Tinubu for plundering.
He says he is the candidate of the North yet there is no northerner around him anymore.
This man just want to shortchange us in the north and hand power over to Yorubas again. God will not forgive him.
Thank God he can’t even win election in Nigeria bcos we in the North have taken a decision against him n distanced ourselves from the Tinubu deceit.
    God pass dem.

My Problem is not Buhari, rather the group of Criminal’s (Disgruntled PDP and Tinumbu) he surround himself with.

Yet they preaches Change! Are these (criminals) the Technocrat’s he is referring too as the CHANGE team?

    Or does he mean Chain?

I am glad most of these criminals have moved away from PDP. Rather than not voting, I will take my chance with GOODLUCK!

I LIVE IN LAGOS AND I KNOW WHAT WE SUFFER IN THE HANDS OF TINUMBU AND HIS COHORTS. AND I DONT THINK WE SHOULD TAKE THAT CHANCE OVER THERE AT ASO ROCK.

Any time we stop playing region and religious politics this country will be better. I don’t know of other things buhari can do, but I know he will fight corruption at the extreme. If he can do that then he can make this country better because corruption is our problem. If a leader is corrupt he can not fight corruption. I prefer a former ditector than a silent criminal who can not probe Bankole, Stella, and the likes. What abou police pension scam? N10b jet scam. Are we all fools open your eyes. If buhari is corrupt he will claim a university degree, and many universities but outside and within will granted it.

They should allow Buhari to rest. He lacks the wherewithal to govern this God given country. The names of two former governors of Anambra state were mentioned at the rally. When he was given the microphone to speak, he mentioned something else. He was selected as a scarecrow to weep up sentiments from the North.

Someone who has the power to bring back the Chibok girls and leaves them in the hands of the cruel bh until he is voted for. His people are being killed on a daily basis and he is promising to stop bh only when he is voted in. This is selfish. He should demonstrate that he has the power to do all these by calling his sect to order.

But in all these polution Buhari have been releasing into the political space shd not be taken seriously bcos what do you expect from a man who has never been involved in any kind of trade or industry since he was forced into retirement.
He is selling kola nuts, grains, sugar cane, onions let alone farming like his mates or set up an NGO so that he can know how economies work all he dose is coming out every 4 years to say he is the candidate of the North as if he is the owner of the North.
All these nonsense must stop bcos the north is wiser than him.
When a northerner will be Nigeria’s president he won’t be a cattle rearer.
    God pass him.

NAN is a government news paper and anything reported there should be taken with a pinch of salt. First, the head line here has zero bearing with the body or content of the news. Just go back and read it. Try and underline exactly where the statement was made.
However, I also believe that most of the comment is an expression of can be described as perceptual bondage or slave mentality. When a man have been blindfolded for a long time, even when you remove the blindfold, he will still be unable to see clearly for a very long time. You see when people have been in social and psychological bondage for a long time it becomes extremely difficult to believe ordinary basic truth.
The question is what is the current rate of Ghana cedis to 1 dollar. It is 3.75 cedis to one dollar. A few years ago Ghanaians were treated like slaves here in Nigeria. Today some rich people are excited to send their children to universities in Ghana. What has happened between that time and now? what natural resources does Ghana have? what is the size of Ghana’s economy? What is the total population of Ghana? The major difference between Ghana and Nigeria today is nothing but quality of leadership. pure and simple. Corruption is like fire it consumes whatever is available no matter the quality or quantity.
I deliver papers in USA and South Africa frequently. On thing that will always shock you is the quality of individual talents produced this country. The difference between us and those countries is corporate wealth not individual talents. As long as every individual have to create a local government so as to survive we will never be able to make necessary advancement.
Corruption is our problem and once removed we no match for most nations in the world. open your mind and deliver yourself from the shackles brainwashed impossibility.

Thanks Prof for educating Kay. We have Thousands of Professors of Economics. in Nigeria but not moving forward. Dr. Okonjo Iweala performer excellently under Baba OBJ cause she had an order to perform from someone . Super Powers cannot dictate to. Former CBN Governor HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was able to do thing’s to favour Nigeria especially the massed cause he is a MSN of Integrity and and of solid background don’t need anybody yo dictate to him. GMB refused to devalue the Naira’s or take external loan during his first ruling cause hr knows and believe Nigeria is more than able to stand any foreign power. For the record OBJ rescued South Africa with Barclay’s Bank and BP. General Gowon said Money is not our problem but how to spend it. Palm oil. Cocoa, Groundnut and others were being exported along with Crude Oil.

kay should tell me which Secondary school the Aeroplane Twin brothers went but they believed in themselves. what they set out to do and were solidly committed. That is the leader we need not paper qualifications.

How many of the Yahoo boys pass JSS2 but can hack into international servers.

Nigerians can at least point to 3 achievements of OBJ who went to Open University after Aso Rock
He paid off our debts. took us back into the comity of respected Nations and left a robust treasury.

Please point to solid achievement of our present Doctorate holder President without any published paper to his credit.

Sorry he tried to nickname Nigeria Corruption and other vices Integrated
