Nasiru Idris, Kebbi governor, says he will sack any political appointee caught pursuing personal aggrandisement instead of the collective interest of the state.

Idris spoke on Monday while delivering his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi as the ninth governor of the state.

He said his administration would be “committed to blocking every hand that is stretched either to gain or exploit the resources of the state to personal advantage”.

“Alternatively, we shall raise and lift up every hand that seeks to selflessly contribute in our genuine efforts to make Kebbi state better. To their end, appointees who place personal interests above public interests will be replaced quickly with those committed and devoted to the prosperity and well-being of Kebbi state and its people,” NAN quoted Idris as saying.

“I shall sincerely stand against every special interest from the affairs of government and will request the same from every government official, no matter their status.”

The governor also sought the residents’ collective support to achieve an agenda of redirection, reconstruction, re-alignment and restoration towards building a new Kebbi.

“Our government will, In Shaa Allah, strive to achieve an agenda of redirection, reconstruction, re-alignment and restoration. It will not be easy but dear compatriots, it is very possible, it requires sacrifice and commitment from all of us,” he said.

“This agenda seeks to provide for our people just the way a family provides for its children. My good people of Kebbi state, our agenda is predicated on the cherished manifesto of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Idris said his administration would lead with justice, fairness and fear of God

He said the education sector, during his leadership, would witness a positive revolution of high standards with improved welfare for teachers and students.

He also promised to reform the civil service, provide accessible healthcare services, motivate health personnel and build roads in urban and rural areas.

“We shall focus attention on the improvement of the welfare of our people. We shall initiate programmes that will put the poor of our state at the top of our priorities,” the governor said.

“There will be deliberate policy support to the people to make them self-employed, self-reliant and productive employers of labour.

“This will be a huge boost to the economy of the people and the state. By doing this, we shall be investing in our people, in their jobs and in their future.”

Earlier, Atiku Bagudu, the outgoing governor, appreciated the people of the state for finding him worthy to lead them for eight years.
