January 26
09:35 2023

Imo has approved January 26 and 27 as holidays in the state to enable civil servants collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

The information was contained in a statement signed by Declan Emelumba, the commissioner for information and strategy, on Thursday.

Emelumba said the work-free days would enable the residents to participate fully in the elections.

He advised the people of Imo to judiciously use the days so as not to suffer disenfranchisement in the forthcoming election.

“Much as the government doesn’t want you to be disenfranchised, we urge you to utilize these two days and obtain your permanent voters’ cards from your various collection centres,” he said.

“This will enable you to exercise your franchise and vote for candidates of your choice in February elections.”

Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River, had earlier approved January 26 and 27 as work-free days in the state for residents to collect their PVCs.

Also, Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, declared January 24 a work-free day, while Lagos had approved four free days for public servants to obtain their cards.

The ongoing collection of PVCs, which began on December 12, is scheduled to end on January 29.
