Imohimi Edgar replaces Owoseni as Lagos police commissioner

Imohimi Edgar has been appointed by Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police (IGP), as the commissioner in charge of the Lagos state command, Vanguard reports.

He replaces Fatai Owoseni.

Until his promotion, Edgar was deputy commissioner of police (DCP) heading operations.

Before the appointment, he played roles that led to the rescue of captives from kidnap gangs.

He was instrumental in combating the dreaded Badoo cult members and militants carrying out killing and kidnapping within Ikorodu area of Lagos.

Edgar also led the team of police officers who rescued six students of Lagos model college, Igbonla, who were abducted on May 25 by unknown gunmen.

After obtaining his first degree from the University of Jos in 1984, he enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on February 2, 1986 as a cadet assistant superintendent of police.

Edgar rose through the ranks to serve as the divisional police officer (DPO) of Shomolu, Seme, Ikeja and Surelere between 2003 and 2011.

Edgar is trained on community and intelligence gathering policing and in 2010 as DPO of Ikeja division, he launched the first community policing in Lagos state.
