Victor Edoror, impeached speaker of the Edo state house of assembly, says he has accepted the decision of the lawmakers to appoint a new leadership for the house.
Sixteen lawmakers ousted Edoror and Bright Osayande, his deputy, on Tuesday, over alleged corruption and high handedness.
Speaking to told journalists shortly after Elizabeth Ativie, was sworn in as the new speaker, Ativie expressed delight for having the opportunity to lead the house for a year.
“I have accepted the decision of my colleagues who deemed it fit to choose a new leadership for the house,” he said.

“The government of this state, the party that I belong to have come together and we have resolved that it should be so, and so be it. In the spirit of oneness, there is no victor, no vanquished.

“I give the Edo state house of assembly members kudos for giving me the opportunity to lead them for one year. I cannot say that I will leave because of their decision. I still have my people to represent.
“This is another opportunity for them to test another leadership. In about two, three months, they will begin to compare, but I wish them well.”

After taking her oath, the new speaker assumed duty by administering the oath of office on her deputy, Justin Okonobor.

Ativie promised to run an open door policy, describing her election as historical and a clarion call to restore the glory of the assembly.

“Today, history has been made in the Edo house of assembly,” she said.

“I have been chosen as the first female speaker of the house, a position which the entire women of Edo and the world at large are so pleased.

“I am overwhelmed by the implicit confidence that my distinguished colleagues have reposed in me to lead the House at a time like this, so that we can collectively bring back the lost glory.

“I will run a transparent, honest and open door policy to all throughout my tenure.’’
