Index COVID-19 case in Osun discharged — after 38 days

The Osun state government says its index COVID-19 case recovered 38 days after the patient was quarantined for treatment.

In a statement on Saturday, Rafiu Isamotu, state commissioner for health, said the patient tested negative twice for the disease and was discharged.

He said three health workers in the state have also recovered from the disease, and that another death was recorded.

“Thirty Eight days after he was taken in, the State of Osun today discharged its COVID-19 index case after testing negative twice for the virus,” Isamotu said.

“The case had arrived Osun from the United Kingdom before being taken into the Isolation Centre, and subsequently to the care facility, where he has been receiving adequate medical care until his full recovery on Friday.

“Similarly, three health workers in the State who tested positive for Coronavirus have also tested negative for the second time and are now free of the virus.

“With this development, the total number of active cases in the state is now eight.”

Osun has recorded 34 cases of COVID-19 so far.
