An Indonesian court on Monday in Jakarta sentenced the country’s first female provincial governor to four years in prison for involvement in bribing a judge over an election dispute.

According to NAN, judges at the Jakarta anti-corruption court found Ratu Chosiyah, Banten governor complicit in the bribing of a former constitutional court judge, Akil Mochtar.

The ruling said the bribe was intended to persuade the court to order repeat elections, after a candidate that Chosiyah had supported lost a vote for district chief.

The court official said Mochtar, who resigned from the court last year after he was arrested in the case, was sentenced to life in prison in June for corruption and money laundering.

He said the governor’s brother and a politician were sentenced in the same case to five years and four years in prison respectively.

Indonesia ranked 114th out of 177 countries in the 2013 corruption perception index released by Transparency International, with number one being perceived as the least corrupt.
