The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intends to start its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Kogi and Bayelsa state on Wednesday September 2, 2015.

According to Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, director of voter education and publicity for the commission, the registration will end on Monday September 7, 2015.

“INEC schedules Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Kogi and Bayelsa from 2nd to 7th September, 2015, ahead of the governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa states.

“The five-day exercise will afford an opportunity for three groups of eligible registrants to register in order to vote. Those who were eligible but did not register before the 2015 general elections, those who are eligible but whose names are not in the voter’s register, and those who have attained the age of eighteen (18) years since the last voter registration exercise.”

“The CVR will take place at the LGA (local government area) level. It will also commence daily during 5 days of the exercise from 8am to 4pm.”

Osaze-Uzzi, who was represented by Nick Dazang, INEC’s deputy director of publicity, said the contribution of “observers is critical to improving the electoral process.

“It is what observers say about an election that gives it credibility and that is why it is always important, especially for growing democracy like Nigeria, to always factor and invite observers to observe and report the processes before, during and after the election,” he said.
