The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued certificates of return to 25 elected members of the Ekiti state house of assembly.

Abayomi Salami, INEC resident electoral commissioner (REC) in the state, on Thursday, presented the certificates to the elected lawmakers, except for the Ido-Osi constituency 1 whose polls were declared inconclusive.

Salami commended Ekiti residents for their peaceful conduct during the general election.

“I want to appreciate all the stakeholders in the political parties and all of you who have cooperated and collaborated to ensure that we have a very peaceful election in Ekiti state,” Salami said.

“That couldn’t have been achieved by INEC without the peoples’ cooperation and understanding and commitment. To this extent, we want to appreciate you all.”

He urged the lawmakers to work hard not only for the state but also for the nation at large.

In his remarks, Hakeem Jamiu, deputy speaker of the state, said the election was one of the most transparent in the history of the state.

He noted that the state assembly has about the highest number of females elected in the country.

“We have nine CoR presented to women who will be representing the people. This is highly commendable,” he said

In Lagos, Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the state house of assembly, and 39 other lawmakers-elect were issued certificates of return.

A total of 38 lawmakers-elect are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and two are from the opposition.

Speaking with journalists after the presentation, Obasa assured that the assembly will pass laws that will protect residents.

“On behalf of my colleagues, we will continue to build on the success of the current assembly when we resume for the 10th assembly,” Obasa said.

“We want to assure the people of Lagos state that we will continue to make laws, pass motions and resolutions that will bring progress to Lagos and protect the interests of residents.”

Obasa pledged to support the state governor in his assignments to bring growth and progress to Lagos as well as protect the lives and property of residents.

The speaker, however, said supporting the executive arm does not mean they would compromise or abandon their constitutional responsibilities.
