The federal government submitted a proposed expenditure budget of N8.612 trillion for 2018 to a joint assembly of the national assembly on November 7.

According to President Muhammadu Buhari, the budget is supposed to consolidate the efforts already made with the 2017 budget in developing infrastructure and maintaining economic growth.

A breakdown of the 1,918-paged document shows that the ministry of finance got the highest allocation (N2.247 trillion) of the 44 federal government ministries, departments and agencies captured in the budget.

Of all the ministries, the ministry of women affairs got the lowest allocation at N6.23 billion.

The ministry of budget and national planning got the highest capital allocation at N642 billion, followed by the ministry of power, works and housing at N555.87 billion.

The federal government has said it will use proceeds from the sale of some oil assets to fund the budget deficit, which is about N2 trillion.
