Insecurity: Enugu suspends traditional ruler

The Enugu government has announced the suspension of Greg Ituma, traditional ruler of Ekpulato Mgbowo in Awgu LGA of the state.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by Charles Egumgbe, Enugu commissioner for chieftaincy matters, the decision to suspend the traditional ruler was announced after a security meeting held on Friday.

According to the statement, the traditional ruler was suspended over allegations of his involvement in conduct harmful to the security of the state.

The statement, however, did not specify what Ituma did.

Egumgbe added that the traditional ruler will remain suspended until the state government is through with investigations, findings, and recommendations.

Meanwhile, the security meeting held on Friday was chaired by Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, governor of Enugu.

Others in attendance were Cecilia Ezeilo, Enugu deputy governor; Edward Ubosi, speaker, Enugu house of assembly; and Simon Ortuanya, secretary to the state government.

Security agencies represented at the meeting included the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force, and Department of State Services (DSS).
