Ibikunle Ajose, the outgoing commander of the 17 brigade in Katsina, says the security situation in the state improved under his watch.

Ajose, who assumed duty in January 2022, spoke on Friday while handing over to Oluremi Fadairo as the new commander of the brigade.

According to Ajose, daily attacks along the Jibia-Katsina road reduced drastically during his command of the brigade.

He added that troops were able to handle the security situation successfully during elections with the support of sister agencies in the state

“I have fought in my own way, I believe it was a fight well fought. When I came, the security situation was not as good as what we have now,” NAN quoted Ajose as saying.

In fact, we had almost daily attacks along Jibia-Katsina Road and other places, and I must say that it has reduced to the barest minimum.

“With the support of the officers and soldiers of the brigade, the sector two operation (hadarin daji) and other sister agencies, we were able to eliminate Boko Haram terrorists in the state.

“Prior to my coming, we had some challenges moving at night, but I can tell you that, now our troops are always ready whenever they are called on.

“Also, we have a 24-hour emergency call centre that responds to any distress calls at any time of the day.”

Ajose said while heading the brigade, there were improved medical facilities in the barracks as well as a better standard of living among the troops.

In his remarks, Fadairo, the new brigade head, promised to take the command to a higher level.

Fadairo also assured the personnel that his office would always be open to advice and suggestions.

“Before I achieved this, I wish to seek the support of all personnel and other stakeholders to give me the needed support given to my predecessor.”
