Dambazau directs IGP to relocate to north-east

Abdulrahman Dambazau, minister of interior, has directed Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police (IGP),and  Abdullahi Muhammadu, commandant-general of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to relocate to the north-east.

They are to liaise with the army and the governors to ensure that security is provided to schools in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states.

The directive was disclosed by the presidency in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

Dambazau said the directive is aimed at forestalling the reoccurrence of attacks on schools in the region.

“The minister of Interior has directed the IG of Police & the Commandant General of NSCDC to relocate to the northeast & liaise with the theater commander of #OpLafiyaDole & Govs of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa to ensure deployment of personnel to all schools in liberated areas in the states,” the presidency tweeted.

“The minister said that the directive has become necessary to forestall a re-occurrence of the attack on innocent school children.”

The insecurity situation in the north-east came to the fore following the abduction of 110 students from Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state.
