Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, has congratulated Christopher Musa, former chief of defence staff (CDS), on his nomination by President Bola Tinubu as minister of defence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sani described Musa—a retired general and Kaduna indigene—as a “patriot” whose elevation reflects Tinubu’s confidence in his competence, discipline and service to the nation.
The governor said the gesture is also an honour to the people of Kaduna, adding that the president has once again demonstrated his commitment to rewarding excellence and strengthening the country’s security architecture at a critical time.
“I express my sincere gratitude to President Tinubu for this gesture, not only to General Musa as an outstanding officer of the Nigerian Army, but also to the good people of Kaduna State, who hold him in the highest esteem,” the statement reads.

“His nomination reaffirms the president’s resolve to strengthen our national security architecture at a time when the nation has declared a state of emergency on insecurity.”
Sani, who said he had worked closely with Musa since assuming office in 2023, described the appointment as “a round peg in a round hole”.
According to him, Musa’s tenure as CDS was marked by “uncommon discipline, strategic clarity and humane leadership”, traits he said helped strengthen public trust in the armed forces.

“For us in Kaduna State, General Musa’s nomination evokes deep gratitude,” he added.
“His wise counsel, measured interventions and firm support were instrumental in stabilising areas once troubled by banditry and insurgent activity. The modest yet significant gains we have recorded bear his imprint.”
The governor urged the senate to give Musa an expedited confirmation, saying the country stands to benefit from his “experience, clarity of purpose and patriotism”.
“Congratulations, General Christopher Gwabin Musa,” Sani said. “Nigeria salutes your service. Kaduna celebrates your ascent. And history, no doubt, will remember you kindly.”
