Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has described the death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, as “tragic and painful”.
Maduagwu died on Sunday in an armed robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja.
In a statement on Tuesday by Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and social media, Wike vowed that he would ensure that the police “unravel the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice”.
The minister said Somtochukwu’s death was a loss to Arise Television, the Nigerian media, and the entire nation.

“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad,” he said.
Wike said a report by Dolapo Fasawe, the FCT administration’s mandate secretary for health, showed that Maduagwu was brought to the Maitama General Hospital dead early Monday morning.
He said the preliminary medical report would be made available to the police to aid their investigation, adding that all efforts would be made to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.
