Manchester City have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Erling Haaland.

In a statement on Tuesday, the English Premier League (EPL) club said the 21-year-old Norwegian striker will join the Cityzens in July after they activated a £63.2 million release clause in his contract.

“Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022,” the statement read.

“The transfer remains subject to the club finalising terms with the player.”

The total price of the deal could rise to £85.5 million in total when agent fees, signing bonus, and other costs are taken into account.

Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.

Manchester City battled interests from other European giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona to strike a deal with the Bundesliga side.

The transfer is potentially one of the biggest in the world football in the summer and happened just days after Mino Raiola, Haaland’s agent, had died from lung disease.
