At least 250 inmates in Kaduna and Lagos States desiring tertiary education have written the Computer-Based Test (CBT) of the Joint admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to the head of public relations at JAMB, Mr. Fabian Benjamin, integrating the inmates is part of the board’s resolve to meet global expectations of reformative institution and remolding repented prisoners to pursue their educational careers.
He suggested the adoption of CBT in the conduct of public examinations to improve the standard of education, especially in the conduct of such examinations in prisons.
“The board conducted the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on CBT mode for 250 prisoners,” Benjamin said.
“This was administered to prisoners in Ikoyi and Kaduna, who were on the verge of completing their jail terms. The board has deployed its systems and computers to the prisoners for the examination to be conducted without hitches.
“The examination at the prisons is also part of the board’s corporate social responsibility based on the peculiar nature and confinement of inmates.”
The ongoing CBT, which will be concluded today, will phase out the Paper and Pencil examinations by next year.
More than 600,000 candidates applied for it.
