The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for public universities in Nigeria to conclude their 2025/2026 admission exercise.
On October 17, JAMB warned public universities against breaching the October 31 deadline for the conclusion of all admissions.
In a statement on Monday, the board extended the deadline from October 31 to November 17.
This extension, it said, is due to appeal from the association of vice chancellors of Nigerian universities (AVCNU), who said their institutions could not meet the previous deadline due to court orders on admission.

“AVCNU has specially appealed for extension due to the disruption caused by a number of factors including a court order directing that status quo should remain on 2025/26 admission list, which was only clearly lifted by the same court on 28th October, 2025,” JAMB said, explaining reasons for the extension.
The board said that the extension was also to accommodate newly accredited programmes across universities.
“In a bid to expand access in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025, released a list of 229 programmes recently accredited for 37 universities. Admission into these programmes is just being scheduled,” the board said.

JAMB expressed appreciation to all institutions for their cooperation and commitment in meeting the initial deadline.
It added that the new date would be the final extension and must be strictly adhered to.
The board stated that it remains committed to ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals and respects institutional autonomy.
