JAMB warns public varsities against breaching Oct 31 admission deadline

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned public universities that have yet to commence their 2025 admission processes to act immediately or risk forfeiting their candidates.

In a statement on Friday, the board said the warning is on accordance with resolutions reached at the 2025 policy meeting on admissions held on July 18 and chaired by Tunji Alausa, the minister of education.

JAMB said it was agreed at the meeting that all public universities must submit their first-choice admission recommendations for 2025 to by September 30.

Private universities were also required to forward their recommended candidates before October 31. 

The board added that the 2025 admission exercise would officially close on October 31 for public universities, and November 30 for private universities.

Other tertiary institutions, such as polytechnics and colleges of education, are required to conclude their admission exercise by December 31. 

“These timelines were designed to ensure a structured and predictable academic calendar across all institutions and to allow every tier of tertiary education to conduct its admission process seamlessly,” JAMB said.

The board decried that despite the earlier resolution, some public universities have yet to submit a single admission recommendation to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the platform through which all admissions are conducted.

“It is particularly concerning that certain public universities have not made any submissions, even after the September deadline had elapsed,” the board stated.

JAMB said the affected universities include Northwest University in Kano, Nigeria Police Academy Wudil in Kano, University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Benue State University in Makurdi, and Abdulkadir Kure University. 

Others include the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education in Oyo, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Funtua.

JAMB urged the institutions to commence their 2025 admissions without further delay.

It warned that failure to comply within the approved timelines will result in all unprocessed candidates being automatically moved to the next available tier of institutions.
