Abdul-Azeez Adediran, 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos, has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan against contesting the 2027 presidential election.

Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, described Jonathan’s potential bid as a political risk that would likely end in defeat.

Adediran described President Bola Tinubu as “a master in the game of politics” who “cannot be defeated by Jonathan or any other contender” in 2027.

“It was this same man (Tinubu) that defeated him (Jonathan) from the outside. So, they are not the same,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“I disagree with people calling on Jonathan to re-contest; people saying Jonathan is the only person who can challenge Tinubu, citing his popularity and experience.”

He contrasted Jonathan’s rise to the presidency with Tinubu’s relentless efforts to attain the position.

“If you accidentally found yourself at the Aso Villa as President, it is different from somebody who gave his all to get there. They did all sorts for him not to get there, and he got there,” Adediran said.

Jandor urged the former president to heed the advice of his wife, Patience Jonathan, who has reportedly asked him against contesting.

Adediran praised Tinubu’s economic reforms and called for continued support for the president.

He said the president’s reforms were beginning to yield positive results for governments and citizens across Nigeria.

“We are not saying all is well, but at least the President has shown the courage to take our common patrimony from the pocket of the few in the name of fuel subsidy and return it to the country, state and the local government,” he said.
