Jang: I had the privilege of sleeping on the bed Obasanjo used in Jos prison

Jonah Jang, former governor of Plateau state, says he had the privilege of sleeping on the bed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo used at the Jos prison in 1995.

Jang said at the opening ceremony of the 94th general church council of Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) on Wednesday.

In a goodwill message which Abraham Yiljap, his former commissioner of information, read to the church on his behalf, Jang said nobody should boast of sending him to prison because it was a divine intervention.

“For me, being in prison is a great lesson in humility. When I was at the EFCC office in Abuja, I slept on the floor, but here in the prison I have the privilege of sleeping in the same bed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo slept in at the Jos prison.”

Obasanjo was sent to prison in 1995 by the Abacha junta after he was tried by a military court on trumped-up charges of felony and conspiracy to overthrow the Abacha government.

Last year he spoke about his prison experience at a programme organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos.

“In Jos prison, before I was transferred to Yola prison, they had decided that Shehu Yar’Adua and myself should be poisoned,” he had said.

“So, they took him from Port Harcourt prison to Abakaliki. In the process, he was injected with the virus that killed him. The same was supposed to be done to me.

“The man who took me from the prison to a guest house in the GRA in Jos, said, ‘We know you have problem with cholesterol so I have to take your blood for a test.’ Then I said, ‘Not on your life, I don’t have any problem of cholesterol’.

“So, I refused him touching me with anything. So, they took me to Yola and he said, ‘when you get to where you are going, we will come again.’”
