Italy’s Jannik Sinner on Sunday captured his first Wimbledon title with a hard-fought four-set victory over Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

The world no. 1 staged an impressive comeback after dropping the first set, ultimately triumphing 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on centre court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The win marked sweet revenge for Sinner, who had fallen to Alcaraz just last month in the French Open final.

Nicknamed ‘The Fox’ for his cunning court craft, the 22-year-old Italian has now claimed his fourth Grand Slam title while narrowing his head-to-head deficit against Alcaraz to 5-8 in their 13 career meetings.

As the newly crowned Wimbledon champion, Sinner will take home the tournament’s £3,000,000 winner’s prize.

The victory further cements his status as one of tennis’ brightest young stars and sets the stage for an intensifying rivalry with Alcaraz in the years to come.
