Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, has pledged his country’s commitment to working with the incoming administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

Abe, who signed a message that was delivered to Buhari by officials of the Japanese embassy in Abuja, assured Buhari of the support of his country

The prime minister said the bilateral relations of both countries would be strengthened under Buhari and would certainly contribute to peace and stability in Africa.

“On behalf of the government and people of Japan, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to your excellency for being elected as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the message read.

“The conduct of peaceful transition of the power is testament of how democracy is rooted in your country. This is not only your victory but also your nationals.”

Since emerging victorious in the March 28 presidential election, Buhari has enjoyed enough support from the international community.

On Wednesday, Tony Blair, former British prime minister, visited Buhari in Abuja, to congratulate him on his victory  and encourage him for the task ahead.

“There is a very huge support for Nigeria now in the international community, support for meeting the challenges that lie ahead, the challenges are big, but the same spirit that defined the elections can be taken through this,” Bliar had said.
