Naseer Adam, a doctor with the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa state, has died after treating a COVID-19 patient at the health facility.

The patient the doctor managed was said to have had an acute respiratory infection and later tested positive for COVID-19.

The medical doctor was admitted at the hospital after he also exhibited symptoms of the disease and was said to have died on Saturday.

In a social media post, Abbas Bello, a colleague of the deceased, described Adams as a hardworking and humble person.

“Truly, one of the darkest moments of a doctor’s life is when they couldn’t help save the life of a colleague, friend and one of their own,” he said.

“Dr Naseer Adam was one of the most hardworking, humble, kind, generous, industrious, and down to the earth, I have recently come across.

“Because of his empathy and generosity, almost all the indigent patients want to see him as he will review them, prescribe, pay for the medication he prescribed and give them transport fare.”

In April, Aliyu Yakubu, a 60-year-old medical doctor based in Katsina state, died from complications of COVID-19.

A week after, another medical doctor, Chugbo Emeka, died at the isolation ward of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after being exposed to a COVID-19 patient at his private clinic.
