The Jigawa government says it ordered the closure of all schools across the state owing to security threats.
According to NAN, Lawan Yusuf, commissioner for education in the state, confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday in Dutse, the Jigawa capital.
TheCable had reported how gunmen killed an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and injured two persons last week in the state.
Yusuf said the government received an intelligence report about possible attacks on all the schools across the country.
According to him, the report made emphasis on the schools in the border states, adding that all learning places in Jigawa have been closed.
He said students, including those learning across various boarding schools in the state were released to return home.
Secondary schools across the state were said to have scheduled Friday to end the session after students conclude the third-term examination.
Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were said to have been mobilised to schools in the state while students who are yet to complete the third-term examination were also ordered to return home.
Jigawa is one of the states in north-west Nigeria located on Nigeria’s border with the Republic of Niger.
The state has over the years, experienced attacks by gunmen threatening the peace and security of residents in the region.
