Jonathan applauds Buhari’s call for unity in fight against terrorism

President Goodluck Jonathan has commended Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s, the  former head of state for urging Nigerians to unite in the country’s fight against terrorism.

The commendation, which was contained in a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, expressed the president’s gratitude to  Buhari.

Abati conveyed to the public, Jonathan’s belief that Buhari’s stance is that of a true patriot, respected former head of state, revered elder statesman, and nationalist.

“The president welcomes Buhari’s call on all Nigerians to remain steadfast and work in unity to overcome terrorists currently threatening the security of the nation,” Abati wrote in the statement.

“President Jonathan fully shares Gen. Buhari’s view that a minority must never be allowed to `bring the nation to its knees through terror.'”

Abati also assured Buhari that the president will take note of his recommendations that the nation’s counter-terrorism strategies should be further strengthened, as well as his offer of support and cooperation in dealing with the challenge of terrorism.

“The president  Assures General Buhari of his administration’s commitment to the fight against terrorism and all other threats to national security,” Abati added.

“He further assures the General of his preparedness to work with him and all other patriotic Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to strengthen national security and end the scourge of terrorism.’’
