President Goodluck Jonathan has relieved Habib Abdullahi of his appointment as managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

He did not give a reason for the sack but thanked Abdullahi for his services.

Reuben Abati, presidential spokesman, announced that Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero, the eldest son of the late emir of Kano, has been appointed to replace Abdullahi.

According to Abati, Bayero’s appointment takes effect from April 30.

Abdullahi’s sack comes one week after Jonathan dismissed Sulaiman Abba as inspector-general of police. No official reason was given for Abba’s dismissal.

Similarly, Danjuma Sheni, permanent secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs, was suspended on Tuesday, while a permanent secretary was redeployed to replace him.

Sheni was suspended over the controversial recall of Nigeria’s high commissioner to South Africa following attacks on foreigners in that country.

His alleged role in the controversy drew the ire of the president, as South Africa reacted negatively to the development, taunting Jonathan over the Chibok schoolgirls.
