Jonathan soon to inaugurate 550MW power plant

To further support the growth of the country’s industrial sector, President Goodluck Jonathan, has revealed that a 550 megawatt Power plant would soon be commissioned in Odukpani local government area of Cross River state to address the incessant low power supply in the area.

This was disclosed by the president at the groundbreaking ceremony of United Nigeria Cement Company (UniCem)’s cement factory in Calabar.

Jonathan, who was represented by his vice president, Namadi Sambo, also revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed for the construction of a railway line from Lagos to Calabar, up to Obudu Ranch.

Other development projects in the pipeline include the dredging of the Calabar River and the construction of a deep sea port at Ibaka.

Speaking at the ceremony, governor of the state, Senator Liyel Imoke who was represented by his deputy, praised the president’s transformation agenda, which he said had given impetus to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country.

According to him, Cross River state has attracted over $3bn in the last four years.
