Doyin Okupe, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Public Affairs, has expressed assurance that Goodluck Jonathan, the presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would win 60 percent of votes cast in Lagos state.

Okupe, who predicted that Jonathan would win the election by two to four million popular votes, said the president would win 80 percent of votes cast in Delta, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Cross river, Enugu, and the president’s home state, Bayelsa.

In the opposition’s strong hold, Okupe suggested that the president would fare favourably, predicting 40 percent votes in Kano, Sokoto, and even in Osun, the only state the president lost in 2011. Surprisingly, Okupe said the president would garner 50 percent of the votes cast in Kwara and 70 percent in Edo and Imo.

He  also said PDP would secure 60% in Ogun, Oyo and Lagos, which is APC’s most potent state.

His other predictions, state by state, were: Kebbi 40 percent, Zamfara 45-50 percent, Kaduna 50 percent, Katsina 25 percent, Jigawa 60 percent, Bauchi 25 percent, Gombe 40 percent, Yobe 20 percent, Borno 50 percent, Adamawa 60 percent, Taraba 70 percent, Kogi 70 percent, Niger 35 percent, Nasarawa 50 percent, Kaduna 50 percent, Plataeu 70 percent, Benue 60 percent, Rivers 65 percent, Ondo 60 percent and Ekiti 70 percent.

Meanwhile, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally in Lagos state, the APC gubernatorial candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode said Jonathan’s opponent, Muhammadu Buhari, would get 85 percent of votes cast in the state.

Reacting to Social media’s interest in Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, Okupe argued that the social media could not decide elections in Nigeria, adding that just 12m Nigerians are on Facebook and 4.5m on Twitter, many of whom were not evven registered to vote.

“Only 4.5m Nigerians are on Twitter, 12m on Facebook, 50 percent not registered, half of them will not vote,” Okupe said.

In 2011, Goodluck Jonathan won more than 60 percent of the vote cast in Lagos state.
