Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos state, submitted his governorship nomination form at the headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Wednesday.

He submitted the form 48 hours after he alongside Obafemi Hamzat and Jide Sanwoolu, two prominent APC chieftains in Lagos, picked up governorship forms at the APC secretariat.

Sanwoolou is believed to have the backing of Bola Tinubu, estranged godfather of the governor.

TheCable had reported that there is a threat to impeach Ambode if he does not drop his second term bid.

Over 50 council chairmen loyal to Tinubu have reportedly met and pledged their support to Sanwonolu, according to APC insiders.

The council chairmen are the most influential grassroots mobilisers under the direct primary system adopted by APC to pick governorship candidates.

Sanwonolu also enjoys the support of Mandate Movement, a group fiercely loyal to Tinubu.

At a meeting held after he picked up his nomination form, James Odunmbaku, an ally of Tinubu known as “Baba Eto” in the political circle, said “Sanwololu is the incoming governor of Lagos.”

Both Ambode and Tinubu have been silent on the reports of the rift between them.

Sanwoolu and Hamzat have also submitted their forms.
