The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Bolaji Abdullahi, former minister of youth and sports, as its spokesman.

Abdullahi was elected unopposed at a mini convention at Chelsea Hotel in Abuja on Thursday.

He succeeds Lai Mohammed, minister of information.

Timi Frank, former deputy national publicity secretary of the party, was prevented from stepping into Mohammed’s shoes.

Others elected were Mohammed Zakari, deputy national treasurer, and Abdul Ibrahim, zonal organising secretary.

Abdulahi thanked the party for choosing him and the newly-elected officials, promising that they would work towards strengthening the party.

“I want to assure you that we shall do all in our capacity to continue to strengthen the party. We know that if we continue to engage the people of Nigeria in all humility, they will continue to stand with us even in the midst of this difficult time,” he said.

Speaking at the occasion, Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau state, said the north-central region deserves to get enough appointments because it was the only zone that elected APC in all the states.

“As far as I know, if there is any zone that is supposed to serve as a model in this movement, it is the north central. We should get the highest percentage that should go to any zone with the highest vote,” he said.

“We shall remain very faithful to the APC. I hear some people saying that there are plans to form a mega party but I want to state that for the North Central governors, nobody is thinking of any mega party. If they come to you, tell them that you are for APC.”
