Militants kidnap four British missionaries in Delta

Four British nationals involved in missionary activities have been kidnapped in Enukorowa community in Burutu local government of Delta state.

Aniamaka Andrew, the state police spokesman, confirmed this to TheCable on Wednesday.

Andrew said the kidnap occurred around 2am on October 13.

“Armed Karowen militants stormed the community and kidnapped the four white missionaries namely David Donavan, Chilly Donavan, Alana and Tyan (both surnames unknown),” he told TheCable on phone.

“They were engaged in missionary activities such as giving of free medical treatment in the area.

“From the intelligence we have, the kidnap may not be unconnected to the onslaught on militant activities by the military.”

The Nigerian army has commenced the Operation Crocodile Smile exercise, which it said is targetted at insecurity.

Andrew said the top priority of the police is the rescue of the Britons.

On the level of effort made by the command to secure their rescue, the spokesman said: “We cannot begin to speak on details of the rescue mission. But we are working in conjunction with the joint tax force”.
