Twenty-six COVID-19 patients have been discharged in Lagos.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, who made the announcement on Friday, said the patients included 14 males and 12 females; one person from Poland and another from the Philippines.
They were discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, and the isolation centre at Onikan.
The total number of discharged persons un the state is now 225.
The state also launched the Gbagada isolation and biosecurity centre, which the governor said will be significant in the efforts to “slow the spread of COVID-19 in Lagos state”.
This comes hours after the presidential task force on COVID-19 raised concerns about the availability of bed spaces and isolation centres.
In his address at the PTF on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said the agency is experiencing challenges with the situation in Lagos in relation to availability of enough bed spaces for COVID-19 patients.
“Lagos is the only place where we are struggling with bed spaces for now. We will always tells Nigerians the truth. We are struggling with bed spaces in Lagos for now,” he had said.
Aside recording the highest number of discharged patients so far, Lagos also has the highest number with 976 confirmed cases as if Thursday; of that figure 21 deaths have been recorded.
