Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, says he has informed his lawyers to proceed to the supreme court regarding the judgement of the court of appeal.

On Friday, the court of appeal sitting in Abuja affirmed the verdict of the Kano state governorship election petition tribunal.

The tribunal had sacked Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as governor of the state.

Addressing the people of the state on Saturday, the Kano governor described the tribunal and court of appeal verdicts as a “miscarriage of justice”.

Yusuf said he is optimistic that the supreme court will set aside the judgments of the lower courts.

“I want to inform the good people of Kano and indeed well-meaning Nigerians that based on the consensus of our stakeholders, we have instructed our lawyers to commence the process of appealing this judgement at the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” he said.

“We are optimistic that the supreme court will by the grace of Allahu SWT set aside these miscarriages of justice by the tribunal and the appeal Courts, and reaffirm our mandate given by the good people of Kano state.”

The Kano governor asked residents to continue their daily legitimate businesses, adding that security measures have been taken to protect lives and properties.

He added that the “temporary setback” will not deter his administration from continuing the “laudable projects”.
