Alwan Hassan, BOA MD, freed from captivity — 9 days after Kaduna train attack

Alwan Hassan, acting managing director/chief executive officer of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), has been released by his abductors.

He was declared missing following the attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28.

Asma Alwan, his daughter, confirmed his release in a message to TheCable on Wednesday evening.

“He has been released,” she wrote.

The train, which had taken off from Abuja on the evening of March 28, was attacked in Kateri-Rijana area of Kaduna around 8pm.

Following the attack, eight persons were confirmed dead while 29 persons sustained injuries.

As of April 3, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said it had confirmed the safety of 186 passengers, while 22 persons were missing.

The NRC had also suspended operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route following the attack.

TheCable had reported that among the fatalities recorded in the incident were Musa-Lawal Ozigi, secretary-general of the Trade Union Congress (TUC); Akin Akinsola, Kwara chairman of TUC; and Chinelo Nwando Megafu, a dental surgeon.
