Atiku, Obi, el-Rufai… opposition coalition leaders arrive for ADC unveiling

Politicians from various opposition parties are gathering at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for a media conference organised by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP); Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna; and Dino Melaye, a former senator, are among individuals already at the venue.

Also present are Solomon Dalung, former minister of youth and sports; Dele Momodu, a media personality; Gabriel Suswam, former senator; and Ireti Kingibe, a serving LP senator.

Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, Emeka Ihedioha, former deputy speaker of the house of representatives, are also in attendance.

The gathering includes figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the LP.

David Mark, a former senate president, led other members of the coalition into the hall as the event gets underway.

Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of Osun, and Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto state, have also arrived. Aregbesola is serving as the interim national chairman of the ADC.

Earlier today, the planned unveiling of the ADC coalition suffered a setback following a last-minute cancellation by the event venue.

The event was scheduled for the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro, Abuja.

However, hours before the programme, organisers were informed that the hotel would no longer host the event.

According to a screenshot of the cancellation notice shared on Instagram by Momodu, the hotel’s management said the cancellation was due to an “internal compliance matter”.

Subsequently, the coalition secured another venue — the Yar’Adua Centre — for the event.
