Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, has arrived at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention.
The convention to elect new national working committee (NWC) members of the major opposition party is taking place at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi; Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa; Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara; and Umar Damagum, PDP national chairman, are among the top party figures who arrived alongside Makinde.
Ladi Adebutu, Ogun state governorship candidate of the PDP in 2023; Natasha Akpoti, the senator representing Kogi central; Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger; Kabiru Turaki, a former minister and the consensus candidate for national chairman, are also in attendance.

Also present are Ibrahim Shekarau, former Kano governor; Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the PDP board of trustees; and Bode George, a member of the BoT.
Ademola Adeleke, the Osun state governor, and Agbu Kefas, the Taraba governor, have yet to show up at the convention venue.
The proceedings kicked off around 3:45pm, with Damagum delivering the opening remarks.

There were several attempts to prevent the convention from taking place, with different party factions securing conflicting court judgments.
In August, the PDP national executive committee (NEC) zoned its presidential ticket to the south.
Per party tradition, the national chairman is expected to come from the north.
