Delegates disrupt Atiku, Obi coalition meeting in Abuja

A meeting hosted in Abuja to discuss the political coalition against the All Progressives Congress (APC) was disrupted by some of the delegates.

The meeting was held at the Abuja Continental Hotel on Sunday and had former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023, Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation, and Babachir Lawal, ex- secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), among other opposition politicians in attendance.

In the video of the altercation circulating on social media, the delegates could be seen in a heated argument as the hall became rowdy.

A horde of delegates gathered around the podium as they shouted in disagreement at one another.

According to Punch, the proceeding was disrupted after Lawal named a delegate to speak for Jigawa state.

This prompted other delegates from Jigawa to storm the stage and intercept the individual from speaking.

They insisted that the individual would represent them.

It took the intervention of police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) present to restore normalcy at the meeting.

The security details also hurriedly protected the key figures at the meeting.

When the situation was calm, Mustapha Lamido, son of Sule Lamido, former Jigawa governor, and another delegate were chosen to speak on behalf of the state.
