Godwin Obaseki, governor of Enugu, says five COVID-19 patients have been discharged in the state.

Obaseki, who broke the news on Twitter, said the patients tested negative for the disease after a test was conducted on them twice.

He added that more measures will be rolled out to contain the disease.

“I am pleased to announce that 5 of the confirmed cases in #EdoState have now tested negative twice for #Covid-19. They have thus been discharged,” he said.

“This bolsters our resolve to defeat this common enemy, as we roll out more measures to check the spread of #Covid-19.”

The state has 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has recorded one death.

Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor, also announced that the state has opened a new ultra-modern 30-bed isolation facility at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City.

Shaibu, who is chairman of the committee on COVID-19 response team, said the isolation centre is equipped with 15 ventilators, oxygen concentrators, dialysis and mobile x-ray machines, among other equipment to manage cases of COVID-19 in the state.

According to him, the new facility was constructed in 12 days.

“This is an additional facility built in 12 days, to ensure Edo people get the best treatment if they contract COVID-19. This is not a make-shift hospital but a permanent hospital built for Edo people,” he said.

“The world-class facilities here will sure assist the patients in getting well fast. There are internet facilities that will enable the sick keep themselves abreast of the happenings around the world as they are connected to the world through cable television channels.”

“We have 15 ventilators in this centre, with 30-bed space. One ventilator is allocated to two beds.”
