Ganduje present as three Kebbi senators defect from PDP to APC

Three senators from Kebbi state have formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They are Adamu Aliero, senator representing Kebbi central; Yahaya Abdullahi, lawmaker for Kebbi north; and Garba Maidoki for Kebbi south.

Their letters of defection were read during Tuesday’s plenary by Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president, who presided over the session.

Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the APC, and Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi state, witnessed the defections.

Jibrin described the defection as a major boost for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.

“It shows that there will be a lot of successes and victories for the APC in the future. It is just a testimony, a kind of a sign of what is going to happen,” he said.

“For the first time, we have a progressive president of this country and Nigerians are beginning to understand the ideas of progressive politics.

“I know, by the grace of God, any future election—all the future elections in the future—victory will come our way.

“So let me congratulate Mr President and the party chairman, and I urge you to continue on this good work you are doing for the party and the nation at large.”

The senators cited internal crises and “unresolved divisions” within the PDP in Kebbi as part of their reason for exiting the party.
