Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are protesting in front of the federal high court, Abuja over the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed group.

In June, Kanu was arrested in a foreign country and extradited to Nigeria to face trial on charges of treasonable felony.

On Monday, Binta Nyako, the judge, adjourned the case till October 21 over the federal government’s failure to produce Kanu in court.

After the matter was adjourned, IPOB members gathered in front of the court demanding to know what is going on with their leader.

The Department of State Services earlier arrested some of the proscribed group’s members at the court premises.

Speaking with TheCable, Onyekachukwu, one of the protesters, said they are demanding the release of their leader who was “abducted from Kenya”.

“We are here because of our leader, to know what is going on. We are not here to fight anybody, what we want is that they should free our leader so he can go on with his normal life like any other person,” he said.

Kanu released in April 2017 for health reasons but skipped bail after flouting some of the conditions given to him by the court.

He later fled Nigeria after soldiers raided his father’s residence in Abia state in November 2017.
