The Confederation of African Football has given Morocco the right to host the fifth edition of African Nations Championship.

The new host nation of Total CHAN, as the tournament is tagged, was announced in a statement on Caf website.

The emergency committee of the continental body made the decision in Lagos on Saturday following a meeting chaired by its president, Ahmad Ahmad.

Kenya’s withdrawal of the organisation of the competition was announced on September 23 in Accra, Ghana, by the Caf executive committee.

The candidacy of Morocco was chosen over that of Equatorial Guinea, another country that submitted a valid application.

The Ethiopian Football Federation, which had also expressed its willingness to host the tournament, did not provide the government’s letter of guarantee, which is a mandatory document required by the rules of application of the statutes of the Caf.

Total CHAN Morocco 2018 will hold between January 12 and February 4.

The competition is meant to bring together 16 national teams composed of players playing in the national leagues of their respective countries.
