The police have arraigned 29 suspects for invading the Oyo state government secretariat.

The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday at the chief magistrates court in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The case, with charge number Mi/520c/2024, is between the commissioner of police in Oyo and the suspects.

They were arraigned on a seven-count charge bordering on “treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace”.

Bakare Rasaq, an inspector with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, said the offences were punishable under “Section 516 of the criminal code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000”.

On April 13, security officers arrested 16 gunmen suspected to be members of Oodua Nation, for invading the state secretariat at Agodi, Ibadan.

The gunmen had blocked the secretariat, total garden road, to make way for other members of the group to force their way into the secretariat complex.

The gunmen, who were said to be dressed in military camouflage, were subsequently subdued by security personnel.

The personnel arrested some of the gunmen, while others took to their heels and were pursued into the surrounding bushes and forests.
