Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), says he is alive and getting better.

The Shi’ites leader made this known during his first public appearance in over two years.

El-Zakzaky, who is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), spoke with journalists on Saturday in Abuja.

“I am getting better, thanks to all your prayers,” said the Shi’ites leader who wore a neck brace while addressing journalists.

El-Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015 after the Shi’ites and the Nigerian army clashed in Zaria, Kaduna state.

Over 300 people were said to have been killed as a result of the clash.

The group has held series of protests over the continued detention of El-Zakzaky.

Members of the group recently clashed with the police when they sought to protest at the national assembly.

Two days later, the police announced the arrest of 52 members of the IMN and the recovery of improvised petrol-bomb from them.
