Super Sand Eagles defeat Egypt to qualify for Beach Soccer World Cup

Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles have sealed a spot at the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Courtesy of the 7-6 victory over Egypt, the Nigerian team also qualified for the final of the ongoing Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria’s beach soccer poster boy, Abu Azeez, scored his 100th international goal in the game on Wednesday.

The first period saw Egypt trail by a goal as it ended 2-1 in favour of Nigeria.

At the end of the second period, the Eagles were leading by four goals to three.

The keenly-contested game saw Nigeria pip the hosts 7-6 at the end of the third period.

The Super Sand Eagles will take on the winner of the second semi-final match between Senegal and Morocco during Friday’s final.

Nigeria came close to reaching the semi-final of the Beach Soccer World Cup seven years ago. The 2019 edition will take place in Paraguay.
