Two members of the house of representatives from Osun have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers are Taofeek Ajilesoro, representing Ife central/east/north/south federal constituency, and Omirin Olusanya, representing Atakunmosa east, west/Ilesha east, west federal constituency.

Marcus Onobun, who represents the Esan central/Esan west/Igueben federal constituency of Edo, also left the PDP for the APC.

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives, read the notices of the lawmakers’ defection during Wednesday’s plenary.

The lawmakers blamed their defection on the deepening crisis within the PDP’s national leadership.

The PDP has been grappling with a wave of defections as top members, including governors, have moved to the APC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Last week, two senators in Osun resigned from the PDP, citing alleged irreconcilable differences in the party.

There have been speculations that Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, is planning to leave the PDP for the APC.

On Monday, the Osun state caucus of the PDP endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027 but asked Adeleke to remain in the party.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Osun chapter of the APC claimed that Adeleke was denied entry into the party.
