Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for South Africa to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
Shettima departed Abuja on Friday for the high-level meeting, which holds from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
Tinubu was invited by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20, to join world leaders and heads of key financial institutions for this year’s gathering.
The decision to stay back, the presidency said, was necessary to allow Tinubu focus on domestic security concerns.

Shettima is expected to participate in the summit’s official sessions and engage with global leaders on issues of economic stability, development financing, energy transitions and Africa’s role in the global economy.
He is scheduled to return to Nigeria at the end of the summit’s engagements, according to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, senior special assistant to the vice-president on media.
On Wednesday, Tinubu postponed his planned trips to South Africa and Angola following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi and the attack on worshippers in the Eruku community of Kwara state.
