President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a series of high-level meetings at the State House in Abuja, including one session with Zacch Adedeji, chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The meeting came shortly after officials of the federal capital territory administration (FCTA) sealed off the FIRS in the Zone 5 area of Abuja over alleged unpaid ground rent for 25 years.

Earlier today, the FCTA officials sealed several properties in the nation’s capital, including the FIRS office in Zone 5, Access Bank in Wuse Market, and a Total filling station, citing decades-long default on ground rent payment.

However, FIRS criticised FCTA for sealing its office over the alleged non-payment of ground rent.

Aderonke Atoyebi, technical assistant on broadcast media to the FIRS executive chairman, refuted the claim, stating that the agency had settled its ground rent dues up to 2023 and possessed evidence of the payment.

The FIRS described the FCTA’s action as “malicious” and “unprofessional”, leading to a public dispute.

President Tinubu also met with Dele Alake, the minister of solid minerals development, and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the minister of budget and national development.
