The service chiefs and security heads are currently at the senate to discuss the state of the country’s security.

The meeting was billed for last week but was shifted to this week because of the absence of some security heads.

The security chiefs present are Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff; Taoreed Lagbaja, chief of army staff; Emmanuel Ogalla, chief of naval staff; and Hassan Abubakar, chief of air staff.

Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA); Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP); and Yusuf Bichi, director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS); are some of the heads of security present.

Also present are the ministers of finance, interior, and defence.

The meeting is now being held behind closed doors in line with the senate’s rules regarding security briefings.

Over the past few weeks, there has been an uptick in killings and abductions for ransom in many parts of the country, including the federal capital territory (FCT).
