Court remands ‘wife killer’ in Ikoyi prison

An Ebuta Metta chief magistrates’ court has remanded Olalekan Shonde, the man who allegedly killed his wife in the Egbeda area of Lagos, in Ikoyi prison.
Oluyemisi Adelaja, the magistrate, ordered that the accused  be kept in custody for 30 days, pending an advice from the state’s director of public prosecution.

A dock worker in Apapa area, Shonde was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder.

The plea of the accused was not taken.

Chinalu Uwadione, the prosecutor, had told the court that the offence was committed around 2:30pm at the accused residence in 3, Tiemo Street, Egbeda, on May 5.

Uwadione said the accused had beaten Ronke, his wife, to death in their residence, and absconded to an unknown area before he was apprehended by the police.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 221 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2011, which on conviction attracts life imprisonment.

She adjourned the case till June 24 for mention.
